Catriona Macmillan has been an advocate of organics and wholefoods since recognising the pleasure of eating them 25 years ago. By connecting farmers with retailers and consumers, she promotes a better understanding of the true value of organic produce.
Since 1997 Catriona has published The Organics Directory, an annual publication designed to help consumers find organics. Over half a million copies have been distributed across Australia. In 2005 she co-founded OTACNet, The Organic Traders and Consumers Network to provide support for organic business and education for consumers.
Using her experience as a production manager in film and advertising, Catriona has organised many conferences, events and exhibits for the organic industry, including the Organics the Future Exhibits at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, The Organic Table held annually alongside Fine Food Australia, and All you wanted to know about organic but did not know who to ask, presented, on radio, to organic farmers, food professionals and retailers.
She has many years of experience in organic wholesale and retail business from having managed Sydney's first Macrobiotic Wholefoods store from 1982 to 1984, to being sales and marketing manager for Eco-Farms, Australia's largest wholesaler of organic fresh and processed foods.
A passionate and well-informed promoter of organics, Catriona is an active participant in a range of alliances and networks that encourage awareness about food security, food quality and the environment. They include the Sydney Food Fairness Alliance and Eco Chicks. She is active in Organic Federation of Australia (OFA) as a director on the OFA Board and the OFA Consumer Council Representative. She is the first and only consumer representative to OIECC and is OTACnet representative on Standards Australia Technical Committee (FT-032)set up to develop the Australian Standard for Organic and Biodynamic Produce & Products.
She travels every year to conferences and food events all over Australia and the world to meet and network with people in the industry, and to research international and Australian products and their distribution on behalf of her clients.
Catriona encourages vitality, joy and kindness as essential ingredients in any debate on food and organics, and believes passionately that what we choose when we shop today determines the Future of Food for everyone. She is well known to organic farmers and retailers around the world for her passion and her organic hospitality.
